She was an avid seamstress and gardener as well. She enjoyed cooking and canning and could make a meal out of anything. During her life, Brinda enjoyed many cruises with her mom and sister, Ruby. She was a free spirit and " told it like it is" whether you liked it or not. As a hard and dedicated worker, she held many jobs over the years. Brinda was preceded in death by her parents Johnnie Coats II and Sammie Ella (Floyd) Coats, sister Shirley Stanley, brother, Johnnie Coats III, and half-brother, Jerome Foster.īrinda graduated from Indiana State University. She is also survived by many nieces, a great-niece, nephews, and great-nephews: Nicole Coats, Chasiti Stanley, Sky (Anthwon) Thomas, Demetrius Coats, Johnnie, Monica, and Emily Coats, Nicholas and Zion Greer, James Coats Jr., Mason Hervey, Drayson Fortenberry, Asa, Ezra, Ira, Nya, Luca, and Myka Thomas, Jerome Foster Jr., Rainey Foster, Janae Foster, and Marla Foster. She is survived by her three sisters, Ruby Coats of La Porte, IN, Marline Coats of Atlanta, GA, and Sandra Coats of Lafayette, IN three brothers, Morris (Anna) Coats of Carmel, IN, James Coats and Troy Coats of La Porte, IN one half-brother, Herbert Lockhart of Chicago, IL. She was born on October 19th, 1952, in Augusta, Arkansas to the late Johnnie Coats II and Sammie Ella (Floyd) Coats. His outstanding contributions to athletics were recognized through his membership in the La Porte Athletic Hall of Fame, the Slicer Baseball Hall of Fame, and the La Porte Football Hall of Fame. Dave's wisdom and guidance led his teams to win multiple high school state championships, leaving a lasting legacy in the La Porte community. He was a mentor to countless students and athletes, helping them grow not only in their academic and athletic pursuits but also in their character. Also surviving Dave are his daughter, Jill (Scott) Myers of La Porte 2 grandchildren, Molly Reed and Troy Myers and brother, Bill (Barb) Reed of La Porte.ĭave dedicated his life to education and coaching, working for over 40 years as a history teacher and coach, most recently at Boston Middle School. On August 14th, 1965, in La Porte, IN, he married Donna who survives. Dave was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Rosemary. He grew up in a loving home and cherished the time spent with his parents, brother, and sister. Known as Dave to his friends and family, he was a wise, generous, and selfless man who touched the lives of many throughout his time with us.ĭave was born in La Porte, on June 26th, 1943, to Harold David and Virginia Louise (Knoll) Reed. Harold David Reed II, 80, of La Porte, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 26th, 2023, at Brentwood at La Porte.
